Will | Johannes Witeknaught left a will dated 4 August 1779 as follows: In the Name of God Amen. the twenty fourth day of August In the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Nine. I Johanes Witeknaght of Sowerland Mountains in the County of Somerset and State of New Jersey Yeanan? being in Midling Good health, and of Sound and Perfect mind memory and Understanding thanks be given unto God. therefore and Considering the Uncertaintly of this Transitory life I do make and declare this my last Will and Testament in the following manner and form. Imprimis, it is my Will and I do order that in the first place all my Just Debts and Funeral Charges be paid and Satisfied. Item it is my will and I do order that my loving Wife Neeltye shall have the Use and Benefit of all my Estate both Real and Personal during as long as she shall Remain my Widow, and if my said Wife shall happen to marry again then I give and bequeath unto my said Wife an Equal Share with the Rest of my Children to her, her Heirs and assigns forEver, which said Equal Share shall be in Line and in Stead of all her right and Title of Dower that she may have in my Estate. Item, it is my Will and I do order that after the Decease or Marriage of my said Wife that my Executor s herin after named or the Survivor or Survivors of them do sell and dispose of all my Estate both Real and Persoanl and the moneys arising from the sale thereof I give and bequeath as is herein before, and hereafter shall be divided as follows. in the first place I give and bequeath unto my Grand Son Johannes Witeknaght Son of my son Johanes Witeknaght Deceased Fi ve Pounds money at the Rate of Seven Shillings and Six Pence ?? dollars and it is my Will and I do order that my Son Abraham Witeknaght shall an outSet when he marries such as my other Sons have had that are married and that my Daughter Sarah Witeknaght shall have such an Out set when she Marry as my other Daughters have had that are Married. and it is my Will and I d oorder that the Remainder of my Estate be Equally divided between all my Children named as follows Cornelius Witeknaght, Andric Whiteknaght, Hendrick Witeknaght, Abraham Witeknaght (and the children of my Said Son Johannes Witeknaght decd. to have on Equal Share among them t o be paid unto them when they shall Attain the age of twenty one years) and my Daughters Jannetye, Neetlye, Margaret, and said Sarah Witeknaght to them their Heirs and Assigns forEver. I tem I give and Grant unto my Executors or the Survivors or Survivor of them Good Right full P ower Lawfull and Absolute Authority to Grant Bargain sell and dispose of my Estate Real and P ersonal and Lastly I do hereby Nominated Constitute and Appoint my loving Sons the said Cornelius Witeknaght and Andrics Witeknaght and my friend Johannes Stryker Senior of Sowerland all in the County of Somerset and State of New Jersey to be Executor of this my last Will and T estament, and I do hereby REvoke disannul and make Void all Former Wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made declaring this only and no other to be my last Will and Testament. Biography | Johannes joined the church at Readington, New Jersey in 1728. He was on the tax list of 1735 in Franklin, Somerset County, New Jersey as owning 100 acres of land, cattle 7, and was taxed £1 1 s 3d. He was a freeholder in the Sourland Mountain (Western Precinct) in 1753. He was a member of Mr. Frelinghuysen's church at 6-Mile Run and was voted an elder of the church Sept. 25, 1751. |
